10.9.09- Day 143

SAND DUNES!!!!
Alan and I left after I was finished with work on Friday. We got there just in time to find a most awesome campsite and set up camp. The sand dunes and surrounding mountains are so beautiful. We watched the sun set over the dunes and the mountains, then watched as the most brilliant stars came out. The one thing I wish I could have captured in pictures is how amazing the stars were on Friday night. It has been so long since I could see so many, so clearly. We could see the milky way stretch across the center of the sky, while shooting stars darted across the deep black sky.
Sarah and JB finally made it in around 9. Alan had to run after them, since they missed our campsite when they were driving around and looking for it in the dark. (We couldn't call them to tell them where it was because there was no cell reception). We settled in and got a very meager fire going (since our wood was a little wet). We ate hot dogs and then drank hot chocolate. Afterwards, all four of us piled into bed in one tent! Thanks to all sleeping together and boiling water for our Nalgenes, we all slept really warm.

Notice the deer in the field..
Sunset.

Wow! Look at the view from our campsite!

Another campsite view!
